GOALKEEPER Paul White was attracted by the ambition of Hereford FC as he signed for the Bulls for the coming season.

The 25-year-old, from Ireland, started his career at Cork City before moving to Forest Green Rovers in 2013.

He has also played at Gloucester, Boreham Wood and Accrington before moving to Kettering, where he has spent the last four seasons making 200 appearances.

White featured well in both Hereford's 1-0 win over his former side at Edgar Street and their 0-0 draw in March.

White said he regretted not taking a loan move to Edgar Street five years ago and wasn't going to make the same mistake again.

"I saw all the success the club had back then with (Pete) Beadle and all the promotions and I regretted that," said White.

"I said back then that if I ever got the chance again to come to Hereford I would never turn it down.

"When I came to Hereford with Kettering during the season I had a good game and the contact came from Josh (Gowling).

"We've been speaking for nearly four and a half months now, it's just a project and moving back into affectively full-time football with a big club, big crowd and big fan-base.

"It's just the ambition to train and push up the leagues again. I want to get back into the Conference and League Two.

"It's a good project here so I'm excited."

White will be competing for the number one shirt this season with contracted shot stopper Brandon Hall.

Hall made 35 starts for the Bulls last season in his first year at the club.

White says he has come to Edgar Street 'to play' and feels he is one of the best goalkeepers in the National League North.

"Brandon is a good goalkeeper and I known him for a couple of years but I'm confident in my ability and feel I'm one of the best goalkeepers in the league," said White.

"I'm coming here and I want to play. It will be a good competition with Brandon and we'll see who gets the jersey.

"I'm a bit of an all-round goalkeeper. I know my limits, I'm a good shot stopper, good on the crosses, keep the ball pretty well and I'm just a solid keeper.

"I feel when there's a time to make a key save or a key moment in the game I'll come up with the goods. "I've always been number one at Kettering, there's been goalkeepers that have come in on loan or when I've got injured.

"Competition is always good, I've felt at Kettering after four years I was maybe getting a bit comfortable.

"So I just needed a fresh start and it's good to come here with a good goalkeeper in Brandon, I'm here to play and I see myself playing."

Hereford Times:

White added that the move back to daytime training was one that attracted him to sign for Hereford and leave Kettering.

He added: "I want to get back into the full-time game and this is affectively full-time, two or three mornings a week, you are focused on football and that was a major selling point for me."
