THE young actors of The Festival Players are bringing back live entertainment to Evesham in September now that outdoor performances have been sanctioned.

Spider’s Web is the second most successful Agatha Christie play of the 1950s, after the record-breaking The Mousetrap. In the plot, a husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Hailsham-Brown, are offered the rental of a house for a very small rent, which itself is very ‘strange’.

They take the house, not knowing  that their surname will lure thieves to the house to steal something the real Mrs Brown possesses.

The Festival Players are presenting this play on an open stage at The Valley, by invitation of the management, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday,  September 1, 2 and 3, all at 7.30pm, and the audience are asked to bring their own chair.

But it is not only Agatha Christie coming to The Valley. The Festival Players have persuaded the popular, award-winning band, Hats off to Led Zeppelin, to come to The Valley and play an evening gig on the same stage, at 8pm on Friday September 4.

The cast of the Agatha Christie play on the other three nights, consisting entirely of teenagers, are very keen to go!  Director of the group, Eric Jones, who lives with his wife, Viv in Evesham,  has been delighted that the group continued to rehearse the play throughout the spring and early summer.  This could be the only live drama performance in Evesham this summer.

Alex McCullough, who is playing Sir Rowland Delahay in Spider’s Web, arranged for everyone to be at home on Sunday afternoons to bring about the earlier online rehearsals.

The Players are also hoping to stage another pantomime in December.
