LAST week saw the hottest temperature recorded in August in 17 years at 36C – but a storm is coming.

According to the Met Office, Worcester is likely to see severe thunderstorms this week, but with significant uncertainty in location and timing.

"Thundery showers" were forecast for last night and today, but then from Wednesday to Friday there is a chance of "heavy downpours" and possibly even some flooding.

Forecast

  • Today: After a largely dry and bright start to the day, thundery showers will develop across the region, giving some torrential downpours in places and a risk of hail. A very hot day with some brighter spells possible between the showers. Maximum temperature 30 °C.
  • Tonight: Heavy, thundery showers at first this evening but these clearing northwards leaving late sunny spells. Largely dry with clear spells overnight but the odd shower possible. A warm, humid night. Minimum temperature 14 °C.
  • Tuesday: A largely dry morning with good periods of sunshine breaking through the cloud. Through the afternoon there is the risk of heavy, perhaps thundery, showers developing. A very hot day. Maximum temperature 32 °C
  • Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: A risk of thunderstorms over the next few days with some heavy downpours possible. The showers will be interspersed with drier, sunnier spells. Warm and humid both day and night.
