A MAN has been taken to hospital after being assaulted by a group of men armed with baseball bats and knives in Netherton.

Emergency services were called to Saltwells Road to reports of an assault just before 1pm this afternoon (August 11).

A 31-year-old man was attacked by a group of men who were armed with bats and knives before the suspects fled the scene in a car, police said.

The man was treated by medics at the scene before being to hospital for further checks.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We’re investigating after a man was assaulted by a group of men on Saltwells Road, Netherton, just before 1pm this afternoon.

"The 31-year-old has been taken to hospital to be checked over, though his injuries are thankfully not believed to be serious. The offenders who were armed with baseball bats and knives, managed to make off in a car."

An ambulance and a critical care car also attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 12:53pm to reports of an assault in Saltwells Road, Netherton.

"We sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the critical care car to the scene. We’ve treated one man, for injuries not believed to be life threatening and he’s been taken to hospital for further treatment.”
