LIGHTNING blazed across the sky in the Black Country last night as thunderstorms finally arrived after another day of soaring temperatures.

The dramatic sight was captured by members of the News Group Camera Club in a selection of stunning shots, which can be viewed in the gallery above.

Talented snappers caught the spectacular display which was followed by torrential downpours in some areas.

The extreme weather looks set to continue as a yellow warning for thunderstorms remains in place today (August 12).

The Met Office has warned that some places are likely to see further severe thunderstorms, with a small chance of flooding and travel disruption.

A yellow weather warning for storms is also in place for the rest of the week.

Mediterranean temperatures are also set to continue today with the Met Office forecasting: "A few heavy thunderstorms around during the morning, though conditions will be mostly hot and sunny once more. During the afternoon, more widespread storms are likely to develop, but some locations will miss them altogether and stay sunny. Maximum temperature 32 °C."

Looking ahead to tonight, the Met Office forecasts: Thunderstorms and sunny spells continue during the evening, though turning predominantly dry overnight. Clear spells and mist patches thereafter, and it will be another muggy night. Minimum temperature 17 °C."
