AN intruder who terrified a Bromsgrove family by invading their house in broad daylight is being treated as an attempted burglar rather than a potential child abductor, say police.

The incident happened at midday on Wednesday (November 18) when a daughter's screams alerted her mother to a trespasser, believed to have entered through an unlocked door, in their Lickey End home.

The young girl is believed to have screamed "they are trying to take me" as she fled upstairs with her mum but police believe the motive for the intrusion was burglary.

Local Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector for the area, Lee Page, said: “This must have been an incredibly distressing experience and a full investigation into the attempt burglary is underway.

"The little girl was extremely brave at alerting her mother and we will be doing all we can to support the family.

“We have conducted a full CCTV trawl and house-to-house enquiries in the area.

"If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious in the area, I would encourage them to give us a call.

“I understand this will be alarming to the local community and as such we will be carrying out additional reassurance patrols in the area.”
