THEY did it.

The intrepid children of Stoke Prior First School not only reached their target of walking, running or cycling more than 2,200 miles to Santa’s Lapland home, they actually overshot it!

The 150 pupils needed to reach 2,236 miles between them in an arctic challenge to raise money for a new playground.

But when all the miles were totted up they found that they had done 2,312 – that’s 76 miles more.

Of course the children weren’t actually going to the icy north, they completed their challenge in the local area individually, sometimes to and from school, other times out with their parents.

The individual goal was 15 miles and their combined sponsored effort brought in the grand total of £3,500

“Our fundraising total is beyond anything we expected,” said a school spokesman.

“It is an incredible amount for a school of only 150 pupils. This will be a massive boost for the playground fund.”
