MORE than £4,000 has been raised for St Richard's Hospice in Worcester.

The money was raised after the community bought, raffled and auctioned Christmas cakes which were made and donated by the Wychavon and Stourport branches of The British Sugarcraft Guild.

A post on the hospice's Facebook page said: "We are so grateful to everyone who bought, raffled or auctioned a Christmas cake to raise more than £4,000 for our care – and counting!

"The beautifully iced cakes were made by talented members of the of the The British Sugarcraft Guild, who generously support us each year.

"This year, guild members donated 30 cakes in the shape of letterboxes, snowmen, houses and more.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this fundraiser such a sweet success for our care."

The money will be used to support patients and families across Worcestershire.

The Droitwich Sugarcraft Guild has donated iced cakes to St Richard’s every Christmas for 18 years, and in that time has helped raise a huge amount for the hospice.

St Richard's fundraising director Tricia Cavell, said:"The cakes are raffled annually for St Richard's Hospice.

"This year, due to the pandemic, we were not sure how much we would raise as often businesses and schools take the cakes to raise funds, but we have been overwhelmed with everyone’s support and their amazing efforts to maximise income."

The funds raised will support St Richard’s care both at the hospice and in the community.
