MORE than 750 new companies were formed in Bromsgrove district during 2020, despite the impact of Covid on the economy.

And Bromsgrove remains the area of Worcestershire with the highest number of registered businesses, with a total of 10,593.

But the area has not fared so well in 2020 from new business formations, compared to other parts of the county.

It’s 752 new companies is the second lowest in Worcestershire, higher only than the 491 in the Malvern Hills District.

Highest was Wyre Forest with a whopping 3001 openings, followed by Wychavon 969, Worcester 907, and Redditch 822.

Overall the county ended 2020 with 1,000 more companies than the year before, but new company formations were down 30% on 2019.

The growth is mainly due to fewer business closuers, almost certainly due to government support propping up ailing firms.
