MUCH has been made of the recruitment drive in the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic and so many people losing jobs.

Here are some of the entry-level jobs available at Worcestershire Royal Hospital right now.

HEALTHCARE ASSISTANTS (SURGERY)

These full and part-time posts are currently available in the Beech Surgical, Vascular, Head & Neck and Trauma and Orthopaedic wards.

The advert says candidates should have “excellent communication skills, a professional manner and (be) committed to providing high quality care”.

It adds: “We will provide you with educational and training opportunities to acquire new skills and advance your professional career in health care.”

PHARMACY ASSISTANTS

Again, these are entry-level positions with duties to include:

• Picking, packing and assembling medicines

• Assisting in the dispensing of items within the dispensary

• Preparation of pharmacy medicines for delivery to wards and departments – including considerable manual handling

• Working in the Pharmacy stores receiving and processing orders and resolving issues

• Staffing the reception within the dispensary

• Arranging supply of medicines to wards and departments by means of a top-up service

• Duties within our sterile preparation suites, where appropriate

You need a minimum of A-C grades in English language, maths and science and “applicants must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and show a willingness to learn and be trained” with “on the job training provided”.

The advert says “there is potential for eventual progression to Band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant on satisfactory completion of appropriate dispensary based competency assessments and meeting job role requirements”.

Positions are also available at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, but the advert makes clear “there is currently no requirement to rotate between sites”.

MONITORING OFFICER

This job is across three sites in Worcester and Redditch but the he only prerequisite that comes with it is that the “successful candidate will need to demonstrate initiative when working individually and co-operation when working as part of the wider team”.

The post involves covering checks on “all hard and soft facilities management including cleaning, catering, fabric and general up-keep of areas”, raising issues with ward staff.

You can expect to be on your feet a lot with “considerable walking throughout the hospitals, in patient populated areas”.
