A SECURITY guard spent more than two months battling Covid-19 at the Worcestershire hospital where he works.
Mark Newman, aged 54, has now made a recovery and was discharged from Worcestershire Royal Hospital on Tuesday (March 23) after 71 days fighting the virus.
Mr Newman works as a security guard at the hospital and nurses and doctors applauded him as he left for home.
The emotional moment was captured on video by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and shared on social media.
On Facebook, the trust said: "Discharging patients home after recovering is one of the happiest moments in our hospitals.
"This one was a particularly happy moment, as hospital security guard Mark was discharged having beaten Covid-19 after 71 days in hospital"
Social media users sent Mr Newman their best wishes and praised the hospital for their life-saving work. One Facebook user described Mr Newman as a "true fighter".
Another Facebook user said: "Fantastic news! Well done Mark and to everyone involved in your recovery so far."
Another said: "Way to go Mark! So pleased you’ve been discharged and are on the mend."
