THE leader of Bromsgrove District Council has been vaccinated.

Councillor Karen May has received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination at the Artix centre in Bromsgrove.

This comes as over 30 million people in the UK have received their first vaccination jab and almost 4 million have received their second.

Councillor May said: "The COVID-19 vaccination programme continues apace and is a national success story for the whole of the United Kingdom. On a local level the roll out of vaccines from GPs, pharmacies and the Artrix site in Bromsgrove has been exceptionally well organised.

“I along with many was extremely grateful to have been called and to have had my first vaccination at the Artrix. Even the Secretary of State for Health has commented on the efficient way the vaccination programme has been rolled out in Worcestershire. I would like to thank everyone involved in the rollout."

The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has praised Worcestershire for delivering the vaccine rollout so quickly.

Mr Hancock shared a video on his Twitter page, thanking all those involved with the process. He said: “Almost half of all adults in Worcestershire have now been vaccinated and it's down to the hard work and collaboration between the council, the NHS and right across Worcestershire including GPs and pharmacists and of course the hospitals. Massive thank you also to the volunteers and to my colleagues, the MPs across Worcestershire, who have helped to get the message out that this vaccine is the right thing.”
