An AWARD-WINNING soap business in Bromsgrove has continued to thrive, despite the Covid pandemic.

The Wrinkly Elephant, a handmade soap and bath products business, has become an online hit during lockdown.

Lisa Turner, who runs The Wrinkly Elephant with her husband Stuart Turner, said: “When Covid hit it was a bit of a blow to start with, as all craft fairs were cancelled, and we had so many planned in 2020.

“However, we worked hard with social media and built up more of an online business. People were looking for things more than hand detergents to wash their hands with, and started looking for soap.

“We haven’t stopped working, it hasn’t felt like a lockdown as we have been constantly working and last Christmas was just crazy.

“We thought we couldn’t do another Christmas at home, as we need more space, so we started looking around for premises in January. We moved in March to Basepoint on Bromsgrove Enterprise Park.”

Lisa registered The Wrinkly Elephant as a company in 2017 and started selling products in October 2019.

The 52-year-old previously worked in education and decided to turn her ‘stress relieving’ hobby into a career in December 2018.

Lisa added: “One of the main things that has led to our success is our Instagram platform. I share videos showing how our soap is made and I think people like knowing the face behind the business.

“People have also started to shop at smaller businesses and local places and I have to thank the people of Bromsgrove for supporting me!”

The soap company has won a number of national and European awards including Bronze ‘Free From’ Skin Care Award, Green Parent Magazine award for Plastic Free and a winner for Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den, Small Business Sunday (SBS)
