A BREAST cancer charity, operating in Bromsgrove, is donating bags full of essential items to breast cancer patients who are going through chemotherapy.

Veronica Kumeta from Stoke Heath set up Ladies Fighting breast Cancer (LFBC) when her friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000.

Veronica, cofounder of LFBC said: “I started raising money for equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, equipment that the NHS were unable to purchase.. The charity then wanted to look after patients in a non-medical way as I like to say to the girls we support; we are not medical, we are here to hold your hand.

“At the minute, our project is ‘hug in a bag’. We have asked ladies who have already gone through chemotherapy what things they wished they would have had had when going through it, for example a rug, cap, pen, paper and lip balm. We have put these things in a handmade bag and gave them to hospitals.”

The charity, who cover the whole of the Midlands area, has donated 25 bags to Russells Hall Hospital, 25 bags to Kidderminster hospital, 20 bags to Spire Parkway, and donating 50 bags to Queen Elizabeth Hospital this week and 20 bags to Spire Little Aston next week.

Veronica added: “We used to have coffee mornings at Fisher house, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital but then covid hit and we also realised a lot of women when they are unwell and going through their cancer journeys don’t want to get dressed. They would prefer to stay at home, so we started zoom coffee mornings and a closed Facebook group which now has around 200 members. We have weekly zooms for different age groups.”
