Birmingham League cricket round up: Late win for Kidderminster

The last wicket partnership of strike bowler Chris Steele and Gomez Vincent pulled out all the stops to supply Kidderminster with the 14 runs they required for victory as the game went right down to the wire.

Dartmouth had looked well placed having posted an impressive total of 239 all out after 49 overs having been 43 for four at one stage.

Shozair Ali turned the innings around with 89 while former England player Kabir Ali added another 40.

Chris Steele proved the pick of Kidderminster's bowling attack by taking five for 52, while Tom Stephens chipped in with two for 24.

Kidderminster made a solid start to their reply, opener Sam Beadsworth supplying 30 before Joe Miszkowski with 67 and wicketkeeper Vikai Dass who added 45 putting on 105 for the third wicket.

But Dartmouth began chipping away as wickets fell before Vincent joined Steele at the wicket with the score at 226 for nine and the pair held their nerve to scrape an unlikely success.

Local lrivals Barnt Green weren't so lucky as they lost out by three wickets to a star-studded Ombersley side.

Once again, Warwickshire's prolific pinch hitter Ed Pollock perished cheaply before wicketkeeper Amrinder Brar came to the rescue by scoring 94 off 104 balls.

Brar helped the Green post 229 for nine from their allotted 50 overs in the face of a formidable Ombersley attack that included former county players Richard Jones who took two for 34, George Panayi two for 41 and Gareth Andrew one for 38.

Ombersley made a sound start in reply through Worcestershire's Jack Haynes who struck 57 while former England Under-19 prospect Josh Dell added another 30.

Gareth Andrew with 38 not out then guided Ombersley home to 230 for seven with four overs to spare despite the efforts of Harry Bates who finished with bowling figures of three for 53 while skipper Darrel Williams picked up two for 41.

Jayden Levitt stole the show for next door neighbours Bromsgrove by scoring a sublime 152 not out to help his side to a 56 run win over Wolverhampton in Premier Two.

Levitt lashed 18 fours and a couple of sixes in his innings which lasted for 148 balls.

He found a willing accomplice in Ashley Newfield who struck a further 63 as Bromsgrove built a formidable target of 297 for four.

Wolves were never up with the rate in reply having been 18 for three at one stage but recovered to reach 241 all out by close, former Kidderminster allrounder Connor Smith claiming three for 43 while skipper Mark Evenson with two for 14 and ageless seamer Gareth Williams with two for 36 causing most of the damage after Charlie Home had kept Wolves hopes alive with a defiant 77.

Halesowen made light work of Barnards Green after bowling them out for 125.

Ed Bragg bagged figures of four for 26 and was well backed up by Eddie Rhodes with three for 24 while James Rudge ripped out two for 28.

Opening bat Jamie Harrison then laid the foundation for a winning reply by reaching 60 not out from 64 balls as Halesowen cantered to a winning 126 for six inside 25 overs.

However, Halesowen didn't have matters all their own way as former Barnt Green player and Worcestershire prospect Zain Ul Hassan snapped up an impressive five for 26 from his nine over spell.

Himley had another setback as they crashed to Kenilworth Wardens by a six wicket margin.

Former Worcestershire player Ollie Westbury gave Himley a promising start with 66 and found support from Oliver Walker who added 39 as Himley reached 253 for nine against an often wayward Wardens attack who added no less than 54 wides to the total!

Wardens made light of their inaccuracy as they romped to a winning 257 for four in reply with 10 balls to spare.

Ali Asif took Himley's bowling apart with a run-a-ball 122 not out after opener Keith Bell, brother of former England star Ian Bell, added 67.

Jamie 'Dodge' Turner with two for 48 and Ben Robinson, two for 51 were the only Himley bowlers to pick up wickets.
