A 12-year-old boy was attacked with a hammer last Friday (May 7) in Milking Bank Park, Dudley.
It is understood that the boy was taken to hospital, but police have said his injuries were not serious.
Police believe the attack followed a fight between the 12-year-old and a 17-year-old boy a few minutes earlier in nearby Sudley Gardens.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was assaulted in Milking Bank Park, Dudley, on Friday evening (7 May).
“We were contacted the next day to report the boy had been attacked and hit with a hammer at around 5.45pm. Fortunately his injuries were not serious.
“We believe the attack followed a fight between the boy and a 17-year-old youth a few minutes earlier in nearby Sudley Gardens.”
It is also understood that video footage of the attack was circulated on social media but has since been removed.
