KIDDERMINSTER stole a march on their rivals by snapping up a winning draw against Shrewsbury in the only Birmingham League Premier Division One match to survive the wet weather.

With the remaining  Premier Division One fixtures all abandoned without a ball being bowled, Kidderminster  managed to start their match on time, such is the quality of their Chester Road wicket.

Yet even their game wasn't immune to the dreadful weather and play was continually interrupted by rain which resulted with a total of 50 overs being lost.

Put into bat, Kidderminster managed to reach 164 for nine from 40 overs before they declared, giving Shrewsbury the bare minimum of 20 overs back to constitute a game.

Openers Sam Beadsworth and Andy Kimberlin both scored 21 to give their side a solid start with the bat.

Skipper Neil Pinner then plundered a further 40 with Callum Bennett going onto make top score of 42.

Warwickshire's George Garrett picked up four for 74  and was well backed up in attack by Mike Barnard with three for 34 while Peter Clark claimed two for 33.

A target of 165 was always going to prove a tall order for Shrewsbury and even the prospect of a winning draw of 102 proved beyond them as they closed on 91 for six, despite the efforts of skipper Will Parton who made 27 while Rob Foster fired 30.

BROMSGROVE came within a whisker of beating early season leaders Wem in Premier Division Two.

Following a low scoring affair in Shropshire,  Wem were bowled out for just 82 but Bromsgrove couldn't quite get over the line in reply, reaching 81 for seven in reply from their allotted 24 overs.

Bromsgrove didn't get the best of starts when they lost strike bowler Alex Wilkinson to injury after just one ball, with Connor Smith coming on to complete the over.

However Wem wickets fell at a rapid rate as only Mohit Kale with 27 could make any impression with the bat.

The ageless Gareth Williams with two for 17 and Connor Smith who claimed one for 23 caused the initial damage.

But it was the acrobatic Ashley Newfield who really caught the eye as he captured figures of five for 20, which included three caught and bowled.

Skipper Mark Evenson helped complete the mopping up process with two for 19 as Wem were removed with three balls to spare.

Newfield also netted top score in reply making 39 before he was ironically caught and bowled by Ben Peel.

It was Peel who slammed the brake on just in time by taking three for 30 as Bromsgrove fell agonisingly short on 81 for seven.

The result leaves Wem two points clear at the top from Halesowen who pulverised Pelsall by 10 wickets in a totally one-sided affair.

Worcestershire's Charlie Morris ripped through Pelsall's early order by removing former Stourbridge batsman Jughar Johal, Sam Butcher and Nav Poonia without scoring.

Morris went onto finish with figures of four for 15 from his eight over spell and was superbly backed up by Eddie Rhodes, with one for 22, Edward Bragg with two for six and James Rudge three for nine, all of which left Pelsall reeling at 55 all out from 23 overs.

Halesowen openers Jamie Harrison and  Jamie Harris then patiently knocked off the required runs, taking 74 balls in total to reach their target of 56 without loss.
