BROMSGROVE Indoor Bowls Club in Charford has received a £50,000 grant from Sports England to support the club's return after Covid.

The huge grant will be used for an additional changing room, which will enable social distancing in between games.

Finance director of Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Club, Peter Harrington said: "We have been playing on and off since April 12 but we are restricting the number of bowlers in the bowls hall.

"We have installed air conditioning to enable up to 30 bowlers at a time.

"The leagues began on May 17 but we can only have six people in a rink. We are hoping on June 21 we can have full capacity again.

"We are very excited for this extra changing rooms as it will enable us to have a decent capacity."

The grant is a specific grant from Sports England to enable the transition between Covid restrictions to be as efficient as possible.

On a weekend, the bowls club would normally see 48 bowlers competing, with players form teams across the county.

Peter added: "When we have full capacity on a weekend it can be very cramped and we need that extra space for the winter. The winter season is our main season as most bowlers will play outdoors in the summer.

"We are also planning to extend our disabled facilities."

Work is expected to start on the new changing room in early June to be ready for the winter bowls season.
