A second half screamer from Jason Cowley helped guide Bromsgrove Sporting to a 1-0 win at Alvechurch on Monday afternoon, which saw the Rouslers lift the Red Recruitment Cup writes Max Banner.

The striker's 53rd minute, 25-yard effort ensured Sporting would not only win the match at Lye Meadow, but also the competition itself over Alvechurch and Redditch United.

The early stages of the game were rather even, with former Rousler Ashanti Pryce and Cowley having shots go wide.

Tom Chamberlain had a huge chance half an hour in, but could only aim his strike from inside the box well over the bar. Moments later, he had another drive, which went just wide of the post.

Sporting started the second half brightly; Josh Quaynor had a free kick headed away for a corner before Cowley's wondergoal.

Miro Pais played through the Bromsgrove frontman, who took a touch before beautifully curling the ball over keeper Ollie Taylor and into the top corner from long range.

Soon after, Chris Lait and Jack Wilson both had opportunities for Sporting, whilst Anthony Dwyer sent a header narrowly wide from a promising position for Alvechurch.

On the hour mark, Sam McLintock almost pulled the home side level, but his audacious chip from 20 yards just stayed out of the goal after hitting the underside of the crossbar.

The 62nd minute saw Alvechurch's Luke Yates had a shot easily saved by Max Beardmore, and up the other end, Cowley headed a sumptuous Jak Hickman cross wide.

Cowley was given his marching orders 70 minutes in, after two yellow card offences in the space of three minutes. Alvechurch almost took advantage of this, but both Tyrell Hamilton and Kevin Monteiro were unable to find the target with efforts in the final 10 minutes.

Sporting had to be resolute as the sun continued to beat down into additional time, but Bren Kelly's men would go on to win the game and lift the trophy afterwards.
