A PUBLIC consultation has been launched for the proposal of 60 affordable homes in Perryfields Road, Bromsgrove.

The potential development will include homes of varying size, covering both single households and families with cycle and pedestrian connections to the surrounding site.

This comes after Taylor Wimpey submitted a planning application in January to Bromsgrove District Council for 1,300 homes causing outrage amongst residents.

Despite this, the planning committee minded approval to the plans.

Taylor Wimpy had already submitted a planning application in 2016 and this application was appealed and put forward to the Planning Inspectorate in May for consideration.

Now, social housing provider Living Space Housing are working with PDR developments to fill the excluded site from Taylor Wimpey's application, which is opposite King Edwards Road with affordable housing.

As stated on the public consultation website - Living Space say "financial contributions will be utilised to improve the local highway network, sustainable transport, open space, waste management and health facilities."

However many residents have objected to the proposal due to traffic concerns and lack of road infrastructure.

Sue Harris, admin of Perryfields New Development Facebook group and resident of nearby Larchmere Drive said she did not receive a leaflet from Living Space despite living close to the proposed site. She said: "I was shocked that they were building so much social housing in one area. In the planning meeting it was stated that between 30 and 40 percent of housing across the whole Taylor Wimpey site would be social housing. It was suggested the houses would be dotted across the site, not all in one area.

"I feel it would be better to integrate the houses across the site.

"There are sites across Bromsgrove that could be used for social hosing such as the old police station and the old library which are closer to the centre."

In April, Bromsgrove District Council announced a Strategic Transport Assessment (STA) of the district had been commissioned but Mrs Harris says this assessment should be completed before any new development is passed.

Her husband Dennis also disagrees with the proposal and said it was disappointing they did not receive a leaflet themselves.

Connor Southerton of King Edwards Road said he also has traffic concerns and regularly walks his dogs across the fields so will loose another area for exercise.

A nearby resident to the proposed site, who wished to remain anonymous said: "We brought the house only last year and knew about Taylor Wimpey’s application but had no idea about any social housing. We brought this house because of the views and the surrounding land."

The public consultation has now closed and all comments received will be relayed to Bromsgrove District Council as part of the planning application.
