BROMSGROVE litter picking group, Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful has tallied up a whopping 385 hours of litter picking.

The group had originally pledged 300 hours towards the national initiative, Great British Spring Clean, but smashed their target after receiving 500 entries on their litter log and collecting 170 bags of rubbish.

Funded by county councillors, ten schools including Millfields First School and Meadows First School received litter picking kits to use in and around their premises.

At Millfields 246 pupils from eight classes collected 15 bags of rubbish from around the school.

At Meadows 58 pupils from two classes spent a couple of hours along the footpath by the school and picked up 5 bags of litter.

Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful founder Sarah Milburn said “I’m really pleased with the initiative in the schools and the #KBBKids and their teachers should all be very proud of themselves for what they have achieved.

“We set out to reach 300 pledged hours and I am thrilled that, with a big team effort, we smashed that target!

"I must say a huge thank you to everyone who popped out to pick, those who go out every day, those who go when they can, to our super area leads who arrange group picks and to those who get their classes together in school to make a difference.

"All of you are #Litterheroes and you've helped to Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful.”

The national campaign took place from May 28 until June 13 and is the UK's biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
