A PAINTING created by a talented Bromsgrove schoolgirl is on display at the prestigious Royal Academy of Art in London.

Camille Wallington, aged seven, has her work exhibited at the respected gallery as part of the Young Artists’ Summer Show.

Camille’s painting was one of 260 to be showcased from over 30,000 entries from the UK and beyond.

Her abstract-style painting, titled ‘The Beach’, was inspired by the scenery and artwork of St Ives in Cornwall where she has spent happy holidays with her family.

Camille’s father, Jerome Wallington, said: “I’m hugely proud, there were 33,000 entries from the UK and abroad and she was one of 260 to be chosen for the exhibition. It’s a massive achievement.

“She’s always been quite arty and likes to make things abstract looking with different colours.”

Dad Jerome gave Camille an empty canvas and some paints and she set to work to create a painting inspired by her favourite beach in Cornwall.

Each colour and shape chosen by Camille has a special meaning. The yellow represents sand, the red the heat of summer, pink signifies love and blue represents the ocean.

No trip to the seaside would be the same without ice cream, which Camille has represented with white.

After entering the contest, Camille and her family were delighted to discover that not only had Camille made the online exhibition, but the Royal Academy exhibition itself.

The Bromsgrove School pupil and her family travelled to London to see the painting at a special event on July 10.

She is not the only artist in the family- Camille’s twin sister Elodie is also a talented at drawing and is a dab hand at detailed sketching. Her family love art, inspiring Camille to pick up her paint brush.

The exhibition, called ‘Young Artists’ Summer Show’, celebrates artwork created by young people around the world and is open to the public until August 8.
