MOTORISTS aced long delays after a lorry overturned on the M5 near Bromsgrove.

The M5 southbound at J4 (Bromsgrove A38) was closed within the junction following a crash involving a car and a lorry yesterday afternoon (Friday, July 30).

Fire crews released one casualty from a heavy goods vehicle, who was placed in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service. 

Highways England has said: "There has been a collision on the M5 southbound resulting in the carriageway being closed within J4 Bromsgrove.

"This is following a collision involving a car and a lorry which has overturned blocking the carriageway. Specialist recovery operators are at scene and are in the process of unloading and then righting the lorry.  

"Following the removal of the lorry, inspections to the road surface and a nearby bridge which was struck during the collision will take place to ensure the carriageway is safe to reopen.

"Journey times approaching J4 are currently being extended by at least 45 minutes, the queue of traffic spans 4 miles back to J3 Quinton/Halesowen. 

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
