A campaign group is calling for four miles of new electrified rail track on the Barnt Green to Bromsgrove line to link up with the new station.

Altogether Railfuture wants 55 miles of electrification around the West Midlands to back the need for cleaner, faster, quieter trains instead of noisy and polluting diesels. Railfuture chairman Ian Jenkins said: "Electric trains also switch on the sparks effect by winning yet more passengers out of their cars, thus doubling the benefits to West Midlanders."

The campaign follows a similar call by the Train Operators Association and Network Rail. With only 45 per cent of West Midlands rail routes electrified Railfuture is calling on the government to allow an early start to be made on wiring up more rail routes.
