THE HEARTBROKEN family of a Bromsgrove police officer who was killed in a car crash have paid tribute to the "selfless, funny, spirited" father and husband.

PC Stephen Harris died in a crash after suffering a medical emergency at the wheel while off-duty on Saturday August 28.

The accident happened at the junction of the A38 Tyburn Road and Stoneyhurst Road in Erdington, Birmingham.

His family paid tribute to the dedicated officer, saying he fulfilled his dream of joining the force aged 41.

A traffic officer for West Mercia Police, Stephen was stationed in Bromsgrove at the time of his death and also covered Kidderminster and Stourport during his policing career.

His much-loved wife of 29 years Lisa, daughter Elisabeth and Thelma and Colin "who loved him like a son" said they "will miss him immensely" and paid tribute to the fun-loving dad.

The family said: "Stephen worked hard all his life and took such pride in the job he loved for the past 12 years as a police officer.

"He was the ultimate professional and although he did not join the service until he was 41, he proved it was never too late to change direction in life.

"He always wanted to be a traffic officer and finally achieved his dream in 2019 by joining the Operational Police Unit in Bromsgrove.

"Stephen was a loving, caring person and we are heartbroken that we will no longer see his cheerful, cheeky face.

"Stephen always enjoyed music and thought of nothing but to dance and sing around the kitchen to any genre of music.

’We cannot believe that our adored, selfless, funny, spirited Stephen will no longer walk through the door.

"Rest in peace Stephen and we thank you for all the wonderful, happy memories that you gave us over the past years.

"Never to be replaced and never to be forgotten."

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill was sent to the scene, but Stephen could not be saved.
