WYTHALL Witch Walk is back for a third year in a row, in memory of a teen who died after a battle with cancer.

The renowned Halloween walk on October 31 was set up by Alison Skeoch, in support of son, Dan, who was receiving treatment for thyroid cancer and in memory of her friend’s son.

Alison said: “Dan’s treatment for thyroid cancer coincided with Halloween.

“He was to be locked in a lead lined room for three days where we couldn't see him whilst he was having radiotherapy.

“I knew I could not sit at home doing nothing, so I put a post on our local Facebook group asking if anyone had any children I could borrow to go trick or treating.

“Little did I know 300 parents would want to get rid of their kids for the night!”

Participating residents decorate their homes and are included on a map which the children follow on the night.

The maps are sold at £3 each to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, Acorns and local animal rescue centre, Hollytrees.

The Halloween trail is also in memory of Callum Brown, who died from cancer three years ago.

Alison added: “I made a promise to Claire – Callum’s mum - to keep Callum’s name alive so any money given to Teenage Cancer Trust is done in loving memory of him.

“My family wanted to give something back to make sure the next family going through the worse time of their lives can be helped.”

The trail has also gained involvement from local businesses such as Smarthomes Estate Agents which sponsor the event and Hot Lobster Design Ltd, which sponsor the maps.
