TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Bromsgrove man, Victor Agüera, who has passed away at the age of 55.

After nearly a five-year battle with colon cancer, Mr Agüera died on October 1.

He was most known for his role within Bromsgrove Sporting FC, as the secretary of the Supporters Society and represented the group on the board of directors.

His wife, Chantelle Agüera, described Victor as ‘determined and dedicated’ which is shown through his commitment to his roles– working up to three weeks before he passed away.

“He lived even when he was dying,” said Chantelle.

“He was dedicated to his family, job and work.

“You don’t realise how truly popular someone is until they are gone.”

As well as a supporter of Bromsgrove Sporting, Mr Agüera was a loyal Chelsea fan. He was born in Scotland then raised in London so attended regular matches.

Victor, who was a secondary school teacher at at Sidney Stringer Academy in Coventry, then moved to Bromsgrove in 2013 and met Chantelle in 2015.

Chantelle added: “We were friends for a long time on Facebook then Victor posted a picture of mistletoe in his flat.

“I jokingly commented saying it looked like a tree rather than a mistletoe and we just hit it off from there.”

Victor was a much-loved stepfather to Georgia, aged 9 and had a child from a previous marriage.

Mr Agüera’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 26 at St Peter’s Church in Charford at 11:15pm.

On request the service will be Peaky Blinders themed as he was never seen without the famous flat cap.

On Saturday, October 23, Bromsgrove Sporting will be dedicating their league game against Peterborough to honour Victor’s life.

Donations to Primrose Hospice, who cared for Victor before his death, will be encouraged both at the match and his funeral.
