A BROMSGROVE blood cancer charity has received £750 after being chosen by the Rubery community as the worthiest cause in the latest round of Jack’s Supports.

Jack’s supermarket, part of the Tesco family, launched the scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes voted for by its customers.

For the past three months shoppers at Jack’s Rubery have been voting for four causes including: Rednal Hill Junior School, Home from Hospital Care, Bromsgrove and Redditch Network, and Bromsgrove and District Blood Cancer UK.

All four charities received £250 for taking part, and Bromsgrove and District Blood Cancer UK were given an additional £500 following the round of voting.

Bromsgrove and District Blood Cancer UK aims to raise awareness about the importance of leukaemia research - since its launch, the branch has raised over £1,000,000.

Nicole Harris, chairman of Blood Cancer Research, at Bromsgrove and District Blood Cancer UK, said: "I would like to thank you so much for your generosity as well as everyone who voted for our charity.

“Blood Cancer Research UK works on finding a cure for 137 blood cancers as well as providing support and advice to sufferers.

“An important part of the research is done in Birmingham, so the money raised is helping locally.

“I am very proud to say that we are now seeing many people surviving from some blood cancers and receiving much better treatments. Once again, thank you so much for your support."

Ryan Bird, store manager of Jack’s Rubery, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch.

“Each of the charities involved in the scheme do fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”
