STREET theatre and music will come to Rubery when the village's Christmas lights returns this weekend.

The event, sponsored by Rubery Festival, returns to New Road on Saturday November 27 after last year's festivities were cancelled due to the pandemic.

The event starts at 1pm and will feature performances from Olivia Payne, winner of Rubery's Got Talent 2021, St James' School choir and a performance of Princess Beauty and the Snow Sister throughout the afternoon.

The popular Primrose Hospice Tree of Lights switch-on and blessing by Reverend Claire Turner and Reverend Hamilton, takes place at 4pm.

This will be followed by the countdown and main lights switch on at 4.30pm.

Leisure Portfolio Holder, Cllr Phil Thomas, said: “We are so pleased that we could bring back a more covid secure version of the Rubery Switch On this year to help residents welcome the festive season safely. It will be a lovely, family-friendly event for residents of all ages to enjoy.”

The car park in front of the Co-Op will be closed for the day from 6am.
