THE number of new Covid-19 infections has dropped in all areas across the Bromsgrove district, figures show.

The number of cases recorded in the seven days up to January 12, the latest available data, shows a fall in the number of cases recorded compared to the seven days before.

The infection rate remains high across the district, but the rate numbers range between 991.3 to 1.547.3, in comparison to last week’s figures where rates in areas including Hagley and Stoke Heath topped 2,000 cases per 100,000 people.

Stoke Heath, Finstall and Bentley has knocked Hagley off the top spot for the highest Covid rate according to the latest figures.

Government data on Covid-19 infection cases per 100,000 people between the seven-day period ending on January 12, shows that Stoke Heath, Finstall and Bentley had an infection rate of 1,547.3.

However the number of new infections in the area stands at 126, a 35.7 per cent decrease on the seven days before.

The area with the second highest rate was Bromsgrove Sidemoor which recorded an infection rate of 1,418.5, but saw the number of cases tumble by 14.9 per cent to 103.

The area with the lowest rate was Bromsgrove Central and Sanders Park which recorded an infection rate of 991.3 per 100,000 people.

It was the only area in the district to record a rate under 1,000. The number of new cases there also decreased, falling by 36.4 per cent to 75 cases.

The data comes as new rules come into force meaning people in England can end their coronavirus isolation after five full days as long as they test negative on days five and six.

Ministers had been under pressure to reduce the isolation period to help address staff shortages across the economy and public services by allowing people to return to work earlier.
