BROMSGROVE District Council is set to discuss the regeneration of the town at a cabinet meeting tonight (Wednesday, January 19).

Last October, Bromsgrove was granted £14.5 million from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to revive the town centre.

It was announced the first project resulting from the funding will be the redevelopment of the former Market Hall site to create a new commercial and cultural hub.

The former Market Hall site is the “flagship proposal” in the Levelling Up Funding programme.

Currently the site hosts the Birdbox which is a temporary project.

Proposals include the full redevelopment of the site that “will deliver a range of uses, including, flexible office space; start-up space (business incubation); office space; multi-purpose event space; art gallery and exhibition space and food and beverage.”

It has also been revealed that the council want to buy the former Fire Station in Windsor Street.

The site has been vacant for six years after a failed attempt by a developer to build retirement apartments on the land in 2019.

Proposals show the demolition of the building to make way for a “residential-led mixed use development.”

The site, which also includes the former county council offices and library, is owned by the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and Worcestershire County Council.

Council chiefs are hoping to purchase the former fire station by mid-March.

Bromsgrove District Council is hoping to complete both projects by March 2024.
