PLANS to regenerate Bromsgrove town centre have moved a step closer following a key cabinet vote.

Bromsgrove District Council's cabinet agreed a report that outlines proposals to boost the town centre using 'levelling up' funding from the government.

Last October, Bromsgrove was granted £14.5 million from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to revive the town centre.

It was announced the first project resulting from the funding will be the redevelopment of the former Market Hall site to create a new commercial and cultural hub.

Currently the site hosts the Birdbox which is a temporary project.

Proposals include the full redevelopment of the site that “will deliver a range of uses, including, flexible office space; start-up space (business incubation); office space; multi-purpose event space; art gallery and exhibition space and food and beverage.”

The former Market Hall site is the “flagship proposal” in the Levelling Up Funding programme but the report, which was approved by cabinet on January 19, also states how the council want to buy the former Fire Station in Windsor Street to make way for a “residential-led mixed use development.”

The site, which also includes the former county council offices and library, is owned by the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and Worcestershire County Council.

Bromsgrove District Council is hoping to complete both projects by March 2024.

Following the cabinet's approval, officers in the North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration can work to implement the proposals.
