A JURY has heard how police made the grim discovery of mum's body found wrapped in a Primark duvet cover.

On the second day of a murder trial at Worcester Crown Court, where Nezam Salangy is accused of killing his wife Zobaidah, the court was told her body was found in a shallow grave.

Continuing his opening statement for the prosecution, Simon Denison QC said on April 8, 2020, officers found an area of disturbed earth in woodland between Copyholt Lane and Black Lake Lane on the outskirts of Bromsgrove.

Officers then excavated this land by hand and found a freshly dug grave.

Mr Denison told the court it appeared spades had been used to dig the grave.

Officers came across a layer of compacted orange clay which was concluded as a natural floor.

However, on the same day, a spade was found in a nearby lake and its “clean condition suggested it had not been in the water long”.

A review then caused officers to go back to the woodland area in October, more than six months after their first visit.

Mr Denison told jurors that on October 16, 2020, officers re-excavated the area and dug through the clay layer.

They found a layer of black plastic bags “and within the plastic bags there were ropes and a duvet cover”.

Mr Denison said: “Inside the black plastic bags was Zobaidah’s body wrapped in a duvet cover.

“The duvet cover was part of a set from Primark. Pillowcases were found at the family home with the same pattern, colour and manufacturing number

A pathologist concluded the cause of death was unascertained due to decomposition.

The trial of Salangy, aged 44, of Talbot Road, which also includes two other defendants accused of assisting an offender continues.
