PLANS have been passed for a new children’s home in Bromsgrove.

The home will be located at 157 Birmingham Road, which is currently a five-bedroom residential property.

Stepping Stones Care will provide the accommodation, which will cater for young people aged between 11 and 17 with learning difficulties.

A maximum of four children can be cared for in the residential facility at one time and it will be registered and licenced by Ofsted.

Staff will work shifts throughout the day and night but will not reside at the home.

The supporting statement for the application notes: “The house will be managed by a manager who will be registered with Ofsted and will have the relevant experience of managing a children’s home as well as having a level five in leadership in health and social care and children and young people’s services.

“The staff team will comprise of senior and residential support workers, all the staff will have or be working towards level three in health and social care, children and young people’s workforce.

“The home uses a staffing ratio in accordance with the needs of the young people who reside in the home.”

Currently, the property has a kitchen diner, a living room, an office and WC room on the ground floor and five large double bedrooms and three family bathrooms upstairs.

Proposals show that this layout will not be modified and no exterior or interior work is planned to take place other than the introduction of fire doors to all rooms and partition wall in the master bedroom.

The provider also states they have held discussions with the council and “there is a demand for additional services in order to meet the looked after children needs which are regulated by Ofsted.”
