THE HEREFORDSHIRE Golf Club are celebrating after their members secured a host of County Championship crowns.

The Wormsley based golf club held the event which saw 57 players take part from across Herefordshire and further afield.

Some very good gross scores recorded but the home club member Paul Fisher did enough to be crowned champion with a score of 73.

Steve Dyer took second gross prize with 76 also representing Herefordshire GC.

Meanwhile, taking third on gross was Bill Main on 77.

The best nett score on the day was Andrew Weston 75-8-67.

Second on nett was Colin Brimfield 80-12-68 and finishing third nett went to Mike Williams (Leominster) on 92-23-69.

The winner of the age group 55-64 was Gareth Boxhall (Leominster) with a nett 70.

Meanwhile, the 65+ age group winner was Clive Nield (Alexander Park) nett 72.

The Herefordshire Mixed Foursomes Championship were held at the South Herefordshire GC.

Taking top spot were Ailsa and Bill Main (Herefordshire GC) with a gross 86.

In second place was the Leominster pairing of Carol Gardner and Jamie Griffiths with 87.

The Hereford pair of Coralie Graville and Stuart Baily finished third 89.

The best nett score on the day was Yvonne and Ron Painter (Leominster GC) with 92-28-64 ahead of fellow club members Ann Griffiths and Doug Hill in second (69).

Taking third place was Julie Powell and Bob Holloway (Alexander Park/Leominster) with a score of 71.5.

The results mean Herefordshire Golf Club has a host of champions this year with Ady Marshall (men’s), Karen Darby (ladies), Paul Fisher (senior) and Ailsa & Bill Main (mixed).

The Shropshire & Herefordshire County Union recently held the Cognac Trophy team competition at the Herefordshire Golf Club.

Some 21 teams from each club in the union took part with four players in the team and best two scores on each hole to count.

The winners were from the Leominster GC with 90 stableford points with a team of Jamie Griffiths, Andy Chambers, Danny Roberts and Owen Dolloway.
