FAST-ACTING employees from a Bromsgrove landscaping company stopped a wildfire from spreading as temperatures soar across the UK.

A team from Envisage Gardens were working on a property on Upper Gambolds Lane in Stoke Pound near the canal when they heard the sound of a fire starting.

A hedgerow opposite the property they were working on had caught fire which was close to another property and a radio mast.

Steve Collins, managing director of Envisage Gardens said the team of three, fortunately, had buckets with them so ran back and forth from the canal for around an hour carrying water to put out the fire.

“My concern was to keep the fire away from the house and a shed which we found out was full of gas bottles and fuel,” said Steve.

“It was fortunate that the day before the farmer had harvested the field and taken away the dry hay but if it had still been there, it would have been a huge fire.

“The occupant of the house works in radio so had headphones and was unaware of what was happening.

“Thankfully after some time, we were able to raise his attention.”

Steve said he phoned the fire service but unfortunately, they could not find the exact location of the incident.

“Our guys literally put their lives at risk ensuring this building didn't catch fire - I'm proud of them for their instinct to be to put others first,” added Steve.

“We just want people to be aware that leaving cigarette butts and having barbeques are a really bad idea at the moment.”

Hereford and Worcester Fire Service confirmed they received a call at 10:18 am on August 11 but a crew from Bromsgrove was unable to find the incident.

Firefighters got to the scene once the fire had been put out.
