A MAN who watched a wildfire spread to his garden has spoken of his relief that nobody was hurt.

Nigel Moore rushed from his home in Worcester Road, Great Witley, to check on guests of a holiday home, where the fire was also close to reaching.

At another property next door to a petrol station the fire reached a garage and two cars.

Mr Moore said he watched as firefighters battled the flames which reached his hedge.

The fire broke out in the field at around 2pm today.

Eight fire crews battled the fire, which has also left a large corn field scorched.

Nigel Moore said: "It was quite exciting, not what you expect to be dealing with on a Thursday afternoon!

"But it was quite scary because it was happening so close to the garden and the bungalow.

"The first I heard about it was when I got here at 2pm and, fortunately, the firefighters had already arrived.

"They responded so quickly and I really can’t talk highly enough about the work they’ve done.

"It all seemed to be under control by about 3pm.

Mr Moore said: "I've no idea what started it but fortunately no one seems to have been injured.

"My grandfather purchased this property in the 20s.

"I can honestly say I have never seen anything like this before."

Jean More said: "Nobody was hurt, that’s the most important thing.
"Things like our shed can be replaced, but people can’t.

"Thankfully it didn’t affect the petrol station as that would’ve been really bad, but it did get awfully close."
