Firefighters battled 'large flames' near a garden centre.

A wildfire broke out on Hartlebury Common, by Cook's Garden Centre, at around 6:30pm yesterday.

Multiple Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the scene where they were met by large flames caused by the heatwave.

A spokesperson of Tenbury Fire Station, who were first to arrive, said: "Last night at around 6.30pm, we were mobilised to standby at Wyre Forest.

"While en route we were mobilised from the Bewdley Bypass to a wildfire on Hartlebury Common near Cooks Garden Centre.

"We were first on scene, closely followed by the on call crew from Wyre Forest and immediately deployed two hose reels to start extinguishing two separate fires.

"The flames were very large due to the extreme dryness and temperatures.

"Our incident commander asked for four fire engines to attend and crews worked together to extinguish the fire."

Just miles away, HWFRS colleagues spent the afternoon battling a field fire which risked spreading to homes and a petrol station.
