A BROMSGROVE nightclub, which was at risk of losing its licence, has been ordered to implement several conditions after continuous “horrific scenes” of crime.

West Mercia Police applied for a review of 57 Monkeys’ premises licence due to it being a ‘significant factor for the late-night disorder in Worcester Road’.

In its application, police said the club can be linked to at least 60 incidents over a two-year period including serious assaults and wounding, heavily intoxicated customers being victims and offenders of crimes, disorder, and anti-social behaviour.

The statement added: “Victims have received serious injuries including skull fractures, bleeds on the brain, broken bones along with cuts, bruises and potential mental health issues and PTSD that follow being involved in or witnessing a significant violent incident or mass disorder.

“A number of local residents have reported that their quality of life is being severely impacted, they have had to clean up bodily fluids ranging from blood to vomit to urine in their garden and front steps - they have had their personal property damaged and destroyed.”

Following a meeting on Tuesday, August 2, Bromsgrove District Council’s licencing sub-committee decided to modify 57 Monkey’s licence with several conditions rather than revoking it.

The conditions include a reduction in opening and alcohol sale hours to close at 1 am with last entry no later than one hour before closing.

The dress code must be amended to exclude PJs, tracksuits, caps and trainers and every customer must be searched with a metal detector wand.

Additional CCTV cameras must be installed in the club including in the toilets and licenced door supervisors must remain outside of the front of the premises 30 minutes after its closed its doors.

57 Monkey’s must also reduce its capacity by 100 people.

However, a spokesperson for the nightclub told The Advertiser that they will continue to trade with their current licence as normal, in accordance with the appeal process, opening from 9 pm to 4 am Thursday to Saturday.

“It’s disappointing that the Licensing Sub-Committee has reached the decision that they have,” added the spokesperson.

“After COVID we accept that the venue and the town, along with many others in the country, experienced new challenges.

“These challenges have been addressed and we continue to work with the local authority to ensure we continue to deliver a safe night-time economy in Bromsgrove. “
