Bromsgrove 10
Hereford 17
Midlands Division Two West

WITH Bromsgrove RFC's league status secured, they still had the chance to have a say in the promotion race when they faced title-chasing Hereford in the final game of the season.

The Boars started with a slight wind advantage and played the first 10 minutes with confidence and style.

They were eventually rewarded when Hereford were penalised and Duncan Roke slotted the penalty.

Bromsgrove stole line-out ball and camped out on Hereford's try-line.

Roke attempted the diagonal kick over the defence but this was well defended.

Hereford started to exert more influence on proceedings.

They fought hard at the breakdown and started to turn over Bromsgrove possession.

Ben Copson made an invaluable attempted interception but was penalised for deliberately knocking on. The easy penalty kick was inexplicably missed by Hereford.

The Boars attacked again through Roke and Stockholm and this time they were stopped just short of the line.

Hereford countered and kicked the ball deep into Bromsgrove's 22.

The Boars took the ball over the line and Hereford were awarded the scrum five yards out. They scored an unconverted try through the forwards.

With confidence rising, Hereford then won a scrummage against the head at half way.

Their back row then rampaged through Bromsgrove's defences.

The ball was spread out wide to the wing and then back inside for an excellent try. The try was converted.

An early try for Hereford in the second-half seemed to put the game out of reach, but Bromsgrove were determined to fight back.

From a defensive position in their 22, Bromsgrove fly-half Roke made an excellent break.

He fed to Stockholm who outpaced his opposition and then passed back to Roke who ran over the Hereford tryline and should have scored.

Hereford were adjudged to have knocked the ball out of his hand and no try was awarded.

Bromsgrove did not give up. Their forwards, led ably by skipper Richard Arnold, maintained a combative approach and the team were eventually awarded a penalty try after persistent infringements from Hereford.

Roke added a conversion but Hereford held on.
