The RSPCA is searching for a cat who jumped out of its carrier when being dropped off at The Holdings in Kempsey.

The black cat is named Lucille and she escaped from her carrier when she was being handed over to the RSPCA at around midday on Friday, October 28.

Lucille was dropped off with a cat named Hubert, who has been missing Lucille and crying for her.

RSPCA staff suspect that Lucille is still on site and they are trying to catch her and bring her back to Hubert.

Claire Wood from the RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branch said: "We have traps set to catch her but as yet we haven't been able to.

"If she moves on though, we would ask people not to crowd her but to offer food to keep her in one place and contact us immediately.

"She will be very scared.

"We would like to encourage people to use metal, top-loading carriers wherever possible as the plastic ones become brittle with age and the door latches often fail.

"Many of the plastic carriers have doors that have to be locked in place by four pieces of plastic and if just one of these fails or the door is not secured properly, the cat can easily break out.

"Unfortunately we have no videos or photos as she was being signed into our care when she escaped.

"The owner was bringing two cats in, the second one was brought in separately and he is with us now, but he is missing his friend."

RSPCA staff shared an appeal labelled "urgent" on social media asking people to keep their eyes peeled for Lucille.

They said: "Please could everyone local to The Holdings keep their eyes peeled for a black cat who escaped her carrier when being signed over into our care.

"She is very nervous so if you spot her please try to keep her in one place with food and contact us on 01905 821272 or out of hours please contact via Facebook Messenger.

"Please also be aware that this happened due to a plastic carrier which did not latch properly.

"Please be vigilant and check your pet carriers are safe and lock properly."
