A FORMER dessert shop on Bromsgrove High Street is set to be converted into a nail salon, despite objections from fellow businesses.

Plans have been passed by Bromsgrove District Council to convert the former Delightful Desserts from a café/restaurant to a salon.

Four jobs are set to be created including one full-time employee and three part-time employees.

The application attracted more than 40 comments from the public with around 30 comments in support of the business but some were concerned about the number of existing nail salons in the area.

Fellow nail salon owners and staff were worried about the impact of another salon on their business.

One comment reads: “I feel this will cause a direct impact on my job and others in the same business locally.

“I feel given our customer base, which is busy, but has noticed an impact due to the cost of living crisis, there is sufficient business already for the local area in what is now seen as more of a luxury market.

"This business will also not bring any other diversity to the local economy."

Whilst another salon worker wrote: “It isn't a good idea to open another nail salon due to too many nail shops around and also with having so many there is going to be less and less customers.

“It's hard as it is from bills and rent going up over the years of Covid.”

It is proposed the new nail salon would be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7.30pm and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.

The building has been vacant since Delightful Desserts closed its doors in 2020.

Last year there were plans put forward for a healthy takeaway called ‘Pepes’ but the application was withdrawn in February.
