FAULTY speed warning signs outside a Hanbury school have been repaired.

Last year, 20mph speed advisory signs were installed outside Hanbury C. of E. First School by Worcestershire County Council after a campaign by Redditch MP Rachel Maclean.

However, it was brought to Ms Maclean’s attention by residents that the speed advisory signs weren’t working.

The MP then raised this with the county council and asked that the signs were fixed as soon as possible.

Cllr Mike Rouse, cabinet member with responsibility for highways and transport on Worcestershire County Council, said: "I am grateful to Rachel Maclean MP and County Councillor Tony Miller for highlighting the community's concerns.

“As part of Worcestershire County Council's commitment to improving safety outside schools, we were able to implement a 20mph advisory limit. I am pleased to hear the signage and equipment is now all in place and operational."

Cllr Tony Miller, county councillor for Hanbury, said: “Anyone using the road to Hanbury C. of E. First School cannot mistake the new signage, speed limit and flashing warning signs which have been installed.

“It is thanks to officers at Worcestershire County Council that we now have this new signage, but we cannot stop there to make this area safe for parents and school children.

“I would remind parents dropping off and picking up children from this location to park in a careful and courteous manner with regard to other road users.

“As drivers, we must modify our behaviour to suit the conditions of these narrow roads.”

Rachel Maclean thanked Cllr Rouse, Cllr Miller and county council officers for getting the signs fixed.

She added: “We need to improve road safety outside Hanbury C. of E. First School and I hope the speed advisory signs will help to achieve this.”
