THE Bromsgrove Sporting squad honoured a late player by wearing an all-white kit during a tribute match.

Footballer Cody Fisher, aged 23, was fatally stabbed at Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day last year.

Three men have been charged with his murder.

Sporting and Stratford Town, Mr Fisher's former clubs, were scheduled to play against each other in January but as a mark of respect to the player the match was postponed to be played on February 28 at the Victoria Ground.

The idea behind the white tribute kit was inspired by Arsenal’s ‘No More Red’ initiative which is aimed at keeping young people safe from knife crime and violence.

Bromsgrove Sporting said the kit, which features a 'Cody 23' tribute on the front, will only be worn by the team once.

There were collection buckets at the game for fans to make donations. The match-worn shirts are now available to buy via an online auction on eBay, with all of the proceeds going to the family of Cody Fisher and their charity of choice.

The club thanked Bromsgrove District Council Commercial Waste Services, and Moving Forward Sports for donating and manufacturing the kit.

Three men, aged between 18 and 22, have been charged with Mr Fisher’s murder and remanded into custody awaiting trial, set to be held in July.

The licence of Crane nightclub was suspended for 28 days, but a Birmingham City Council licensing committee ordered the licence to be revoked after an application by the police force.
