BROMSGROVE Labour has revealed their candidates for next month’s local elections.

In total, the Labour Party have put forward 22 candidates and says they have ‘put together a real alternative for Bromsgrove’,

Martin McLeod is standing for Alvechurch Village, Eric Godfrey is standing for Alvechurch South, Jan Elledge has been selected for Aston Fields and John Ellis will be hoping to win Avoncroft’s seat.

Ros Cooke is standing for Belbroughton and Romsley while Kiran Gulia is standing for Barnt Green and Hopwood and hoping to swipe the Bromsgrove Central seat from the Liberal Democrats is David Peters.

Andrew Glanville is the prospective candidate for Catshill North, while Jenny Smith is hoping to gain the Catshill South seat from the Conservatives.

Current CLP chair Sam Ammar is hoping to represent Charford.

Christine McDonald is the Labour Party’s candidate for Cofton while David Hopkins is hoping to maintain Hill Top as a Labour seat and Douglas Bridger is the prospective candidate for Hollywood.

David Cochrane is for Lickey Hills, Alan Cooper is standing for Marlbrook and Antony Maslen is hoping to represent Perryfields.

Cllr Harrison Rone-Clarke and Cllr Peter McDonald will be defending their seats in Rock Hill and Rubery North while Esther Gray, vice-chair of the constituency Labour will stand for Rubery South.

Mick Marshall is standing for Sanders Park, David Stewart for Sidemoor and Sean Shannon for Tardebigge.

Sam Ammar said: “Should we win a majority in the council, one of the first things we will do is end the culture of employing consultants to do the job of the portfolio holders costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of pounds.

“We would utilize this money to improve the leisure facilities in the town including the Artrix, to freeze council tax and to negotiate with neighbouring authorities to reinstate the 144 bus route.”
