A BROMSGROVE man has been jailed for cannabis cultivation.

Dang Phan, aged 28, of Barnfield Road, was sentenced today (Monday June 5) at Worcester Crown Court.

Phan had denied the charge but was found guilty unanimously by the jury.

The judge sentenced him to 10 months in prison and a decision is now awaited from the Home Office on whether he will be deported.

In December last year, police officers conducted a drugs warrant at Barnfield Road after receiving community intelligence about a possible cannabis grow.

Officers from Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team executed the warrant and discovered around 200 cannabis plants in various stages of growth.

Inspector Richard Field, from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The warrant was part of our on-going work to shut down the distribution of drugs in Bromsgrove. It was our partners and members of the community who told us of their concerns around drug supply at this address.

“The impact of drugs is felt in many ways, such as the exploitation of vulnerable people and an increase in other criminality or anti-social behaviour. While some people might think cannabis, for example, is just a bit of recreational fun, those who are supplying and profiting from dealing are often violent and dangerous criminals.”

Anyone concerned that someone may be growing or selling drugs is urged to contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team.
