PLANS for a site ‘to facilitate a gypsy lifestyle’ in Bromsgrove have been refused following nearly 90 objections.

A planning application for two caravan pitches and day rooms on Dale Lane, Lickey End was heard by Bromsgrove District Council last week (June 6).

The plans proposed two pitches with a touring caravan and mobile home on each, two dayrooms and the existing stable to be retained.

A document prepared for the committee which refused planning permission stated: “Whilst the application seeks permission for a permanent settled base the application sets out that the proposed occupiers of the pitches continue to travel frequently throughout the year.”

The site would have been occupied by an extended family including children, but planners decided that ‘the application does not advance that the children proposed to occupy the site require a settled base for education or any other purposes’.

Planners concluded that the development would be harmful to the green belt, and it would detract from the existing character and appearance of the site.
