A SECONDARY school in Bromsgrove has received its first Ofsted rating in 11 years and it’s good news as pupils and staff share the ‘same high aspirations’.

Inspectors from the education watchdog visited South Bromsgrove High on Charford Road in April and this week their report has been published revealing the school has been rated ‘good’.

The school was graded ‘outstanding’ in three of the five areas inspected.

According to the Ofsted report, the school was last inspected 11 years ago and was judged outstanding, from then until November 2020 it was exempted by law from routine inspections.

The report notes: “South Bromsgrove High school leaders and pupils share the same high aspirations.

"Pupils understand and follow the school values to be respectful, resilient, honest and hardworking.

“Relationships between pupils and staff are warm and courteous.

“The sixth-form provision enables students to achieve exceptionally well.

“Students in the sixth form also support many areas of school life, including younger pupils’ learning and as leaders of house competitions.”

Inspectors described the school atmosphere as ‘purposeful’ and most pupils work ‘hard and want to do well’.

Headteacher Chris Smith said he is delighted with the judgement.

He said: “This is a brilliant achievement within the context of the more challenging Ofsted framework that was introduced in 2019.

“I am very pleased that inspectors recognised many of the aspects that make ‘South’ a special place to learn and work.

“These include our high aspirations, our focus on personal development and the quality of relationships between students and staff.

“It is satisfying to see that the priority we give to personal development was recognised, particularly the significantly high participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, our annual Eisteddfod competition and the support in place for students’ wellbeing.”
