A WOMAN was left seriously hurt and people were evacuated from their homes after a gas cloud leaked from a tanker.

A hazardous liquid nitrogen cloud formed after gas leaked from a delivery tanker forcing people to leave their homes. 

Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving a report of hazardous materials on Vines Lane just after 10am on yesterday (Tuesday, June 20).

It is believed the gas cloud was a result of liquid nitrogen leaking from a delivery tanker.

A woman was treated by paramedics for potentially serious injuries before she was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.

A second man was seen by paramedics but he refused to go to hospital.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Services said: "We were called to an incident on Vines Lane in Droitwich at around 10.40am yesterday (Tuesday 21st).

"An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered two patients.

"A woman was treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.

"Medical staff assessed a second patient, a man, but he did not wish to go to hospital and so was given self-care advice and was discharged at the scene."

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were was called out to a report of hazardous materials in Vines Lane, Droitwich, at 10.21am on Tuesday.

“Two Droitwich Fire Station crews attended the scene where a liquid nitrogen gas cloud was affecting multiple properties which were evacuated.

“Two breathing apparatus units were used as the gas cloud was dispersed and the leak isolated.

“It is believed the incident was a result of liquid nitrogen leaking from a delivery tanker.

“All people were accounted for and a man in his 50s was assessed by the ambulance service (log number 1367).

“The final HWFRS crew left the scene at 11.43am.”
