A RUBERY school could be demolished and rebuilt under the government’s school rebuilding programme.

Plans have been submitted to Bromsgrove District Council to demolish the existing Waseley Hills High School buildings minus the caretaker’s house and the development of a new school campus.

It is proposed two new school buildings are constructed facing each other in a central courtyard as well as a new Multi Use Games Area.

The school has been prioritised in the government’s rebuilding programme following a conditions assessment that determined urgent action was required due to the poor condition of the buildings.

A planning statement accompanying the application states: “The proposed new school wishes to offer community use of its facilities, with a specific focus on sports.

“An important consideration in the new design is for a safe and easy access, with an entrance area that could facilitate a reception facility out of school hours, with suitable zoning in place.

“There is also expectation that some teaching spaces, and drama studio would be available for out of hours use.

“Whilst the school do not currently have specific sustainability measures/policies in place within the curriculum, it is regarded as a significant area of growth that the school want students to play an active role in.”

If plans are passed the school will provide a mixture of teaching facilities located in the two blocks including general classrooms, a dedicated SEN department, a sixth form study room, a sports hall together with a fitness suite and activity studio, a library, a music room and drama studio, science labs, art design and technology classes and dedicated ICT suites.

The vehicle access to the site would remain unchanged and the parking areas and number of spaces would also remain at a total of 100.

The school would remain open and operational through the phased development works.
